Take the Name

May 23
Today, I got rid of the beard for the first time in, like, 4 years, or something. The goal is that I can’t have a full beard again until Take the Name has either a full line up or has some new material finished. If you are a drummer or know a drummer who wants to play hardcore… have them email me!

Thanks for visiting our website.

It’s been a very interesting and dull winter. (if that’s possible) Take the Name hasn’t been able to take off here in Indiana. Just not enough musicians stepping up.
During this Spring, there has been a lot going on and we’ve each been very busy. With that said, TTN is going to continue its winter hibernation into the summer. After Cornerstone, it will be time to write some new music and get back on the road and in your lives. (I hope you will still want us. lol)
Please keep TTN in your prayers. Taking a full year off has been hard for me. But I’m trying to grow during this process and learn more of what God wants for my life and this ministry.
There will be something special happening this summer. Keep your eyes open on our facebook page for more information on what this something special is.

Thanks for your prayers and support.

Hey friends,

It’s been a while since we’ve posted on our site. I’m sorry for that. If you’ve been following us on facebook and/or twitter, you probably have kept up to date with what’s been going on.

Me and Katie are settled in here in Kokomo, IN. It’s been a blessing, for sure! We are very happy where we are right now.

If you haven’t been following us on Facebook and twitter, Yanni and Sgetti left TTN to pursue another band of their own back in Ohio. This was a good move for everyone. Two guys have already joined Take the Name from Indiana. Caley Stage (The Gun Show, The Blood Reckoning) and Nate Uptgraft (For Better Or Worse). We are still looking for one or two more guys. Definitely a guitarist, maybe two. Or maybe a guitarist and bassist. So if you can play guitar or bass, are interested in making a difference, and live in Indiana, send us an email!

I am very excited about what is to come for Take the Name. This is looking to be the most talented group I have worked with, yet. Right after Thanksgiving the writing process begins to write the next album. I have no doubt that God has had His hand on this process. Everything from all the previous band members to our move to Indiana and the new band members. This is definitely an exciting time. I hope that you guys can be excited with us!

Take the Name has made many changes in just a year, but the one thing that remains is family. I’m so glad that through the member changes and the move and everything, we have remained friends with all previous members of the band. They are all doing well right now and moving forward with their lives. And they are all still a part of the TTN family. (The TTN family who now has 3 Nate’s. lol) I hope you guys are as excited as I am to get this thing rolling again.

God bless.

Well, we had a very interesting tour this year. Shortened to an unbelievable time. Basically, it can’t even be considered a tour. Honestly. In the process, these ridiculous gas prices put us behind deep.

Let me just note for you that TTN is not “all about money.” As a matter of fact, we wish it was NOTHING about money. But the truth of the matter is that it costs money to continue doing what we’re doing. So money is often discussed and ultimately altars how we do things by what we’re able to do financially.

This summer trip we came home with over $500 less than what we left with. Last year the tour set us back only $100. So as far as any more touring this summer… it’s impossible. After Sunday’s show we have just over $100 in our band fund AND Sunday was Tyler’s last show as our drummer.

Why is Tyler’s departure a problem?
Since March we’ve been using Tyler’s vehicle to pull our trailer to our shows. Now that he’s gone, we no longer have a vehicle that will pull a trailer. —- ouch.

What now?
1. Writing a new album. We are in the process of writing with Yanni and Sgetti working their butts off to own the new stuff and allow TTN to make the next step. I’m excited about what we’re doing so far. Please pray and we’re able to make something that is relevant. The genre plays a lot of games with fads and gimmicks. We just like to play heavy music that we enjoy and we think others will enjoy. Sometimes that’s not good enough for “the scene.” Hopefully this time around it will be respected for what it is; hardcore.
2. Looking and finding a way to purchase a van we can use to get to shows. Without this… we have to ask WAY too much for guarantees from venues.
3. Josh and Katie are moving to Kokomo, Indiana! Katie got a really sweet job working at a Christian based alternative school in Kokomo. We are very excited for this avenue of ministry for Katie and know that she’s a perfect fit for The Crossing.

Down the road:
We’ve been talking with a few studios and trying to figure out a time frame to get in and record our full length album. We do not have that time frame nailed down yet. Finances are playing a crushing part in most of our plans.
With Josh going to be living in Indiana, it’s going to change our ability to accept a million weekend shows every weekend. We’re all going to be working jobs and trying to save up money to do this right. This summer will be a lot of that while writing. After Saturday, our next show will probably be with new gear and new music. Feels great to say that trusting that God will provide the finances to make all of this happen. (Most of the time that provision comes through you guys!)

In order to try and raise our funds back up, and to show our gratitude for you guys for always being faithful to us… we’ve put our shirts on sale! Our online store features 4 of our shirts for either $5 or $8!!! Shipping is just $2 for the first shirt and $1 for each additional shirt. (It usually costs me from $2 to $4 to ship them depending on where in the US I’m shipping it to. There is also an item in the store labeled “Donate.” If you would like to help us get back on our feet quicker… please consider donating. Every dollar helps!

We love you guys! Thanks for keeping up to date on us. I know there’s a million awesome bands out there that you could be paying attention to other than us. We really appreciate the time it took to read my long posts.

Much love,
Josh | Take the Name

PS… sorry for speaking in third person in the post… it just makes it easier to follow along and know who I’m talking about. lol

Hey guys!

It’s been a glass all the way full today. I received a call today letting me know of great news! The church that Katie and I attend (Destiny House) is letting us borrow their van for our Cornerstone tour!! This is true provision from God. We were going to have to take 2 vehicles to Cornerstone, and now we do not have to!! It’s a blessing, for sure! We are very thankful.

So, we have two new songs that we’ll be playing on this tour and at Cornerstone. We’re pretty excited about it. We’ve been playing the same songs for a while now, so we’re excited to be able to change it up a bit.

Also, for this tour… you’ll see a different face behind the drums. Our friend, Brandon [from The Disease & the Cure], will be filling in on drums from June 25 through July 6. So come show him some love while we’re out because he’s been working very hard to learn our stuff, both new and old.

Chris Chapman [Though She Wrote] took some pictures of our ugly mugs for some new promos at our show on Saturday. So look forward to some new pics to laugh at. haha.

We are extremely excited for this year’s Cornerstone Festival. We hope to see some friends out there to hang out. I already know there is like 50 people I’ll get to see there for the first time in a while. Some really awesome people. If you’re the praying type, please keep us in your prayers during this time. Prayer for safe travels, great gas mileage, for Brandon to get these songs down, for God to move IN us & THROUGH us at Cornerstone and this tour, and also for Josh’s voice to hold up during all 6 Cornerstone sets. [It’s very dusty there and we even have 5 sets in the first 4 days there.]

Also continue to be praying for Joplin, MO, and every affected by the tornadoes this year! There is still a lot to be done in the rebuilding process. We can’t forget to keep praying for them. [and Japan].

We will keep you posted with new things happening soon. We are probably going to head into the studio soon after we get back to demo some of the new songs and get them out there for you to hear what we’ve been working on. Also updating you with opportunities to help us get the new record done quicker and possibly even make it available for free for everyone.

God bless.

NEWS: Yesterday, we began writing a new album!

We are assuming this will take some time, so don’t wet your pants yet. This is a very early development. haha. Our plans right now have been noted that we are doing a Cornerstone tour this year and coming home after to get in depth into writing this record. But for those who want to know something about what we’re doing… what I can tell you right now is that it’s more “hardcore” than our other stuff… and heavier. =]

Hope to see you guys at a show… hopefully soon we’ll be able to bust out some new jams live.

God bless.

Hey friends… I realize that this home page hasn’t been updated very much. But the rest of the site has been kept up. Especially the calender. I’ve been working hard to make sure that it is updated all the time.

We have some really good news and some bad news, too. I’ll start with the good news!

We have completely sold out of physical copies of our full length released in 2010. So we posted a download of every song off the full length on our site! And it’s 100% FREE!! No strings attached. Just go here: http://www.takethename.com/album.html

The bad news is… gas prices are very high and are expected to keep going higher this summer. We have two big things that we need to do as a band… one is tour, but the other is writing and recording a new album. With the gas prices raising and the venues not being able to give out the guarantees they used to be able to… we decided it would be more productive to do a lot less touring this summer than originally planned. We will still be touring out to Cornerstone and playing Cornerstone! And there’s 1 or 2 more short tours in the works for the rest of the summer. But most of our energy will be going into writing and developing new songs. So this is kind of good news thrown in with the bad news. You might not get to see us live, but we’ll have new music coming out sooner than later.

We really appreciate all of your support! If anyone wants to help us begin to fund this summer’s tours… go to our online store and get a shirt or just donate some money to us. You can donate either through our online store OR by clicking the DONATE button on the right bar of our site.

Thank you and God bless!

If you didn’t know, we bought a trailer. It is a 2000 Pace American Cargo Sport. It looks to be in great condition, for being 10 years old. We bought it last Monday and it was taken to Tyler’s house to be parked. While it was there, Tyler’s Dad replaced the tires. As he was doing that, he noticed rust ‘sections’ falling.

Turns out the frame underneath the trailer was very rusted. When we picked it up there was a lot of snow and it was in a tight spot, so we weren’t able to look underneath. Not to mention, I’ve never bought a trailer from someone I didn’t know and didn’t THINK to look underneath. The tongue part of the frame that you can see was in great condition so I didn’t think anything of it.

But anyway, there are a few rusted out holes in the frame and even a section in the corner of about 6 inches that is missing. Just not there.

We called the guy back, and he said that he didn’t look underneath either and if he would have known he would have gotten it fixed before he sold it. And also said that he would buy it back and do so…. if he wouldn’t have already spent the money.

So here we are, a trailer that is unusable… out $1,000… and having to change our month long March tour to a 1 week, Indiana only, tour. (because that’s already booked).

First and foremost we are asking you guys to pray with us in faith that God will work this out so we end up with something so much better, that we look back at this and laugh.

And second, we are asking you guys… if you have anything at all to help us out with financially, we asking you to give out of faith that God will bless you in return. If God lays it on your heart and you’re able to give $500, that is awesome! If you are able to give $10, that is just as awesome!

If you would like to donate to our trailer fund, please visit www.takethename.com/donate.html

(if you are on the site, there is a Donate button on the right you can click on)

Thank you very much!

God bless.

Hey guys! If you tried to visit the page recently and couldn’t get there… I’m very sorry. The domain usually is automatically renewed each year. This year, after I got married, my billing address changed. Therefore, it didn’t update. So by the time i realized it and manually renewed it… it took some time for it to reflect. I’m sorry.

But in better news, I added a music player to the media page. Because of this, I added a downloads page which holds the wallpapers. I’ve been wanting a music player up on here very badly, considering MySpace is really dying. We just get too much spam on there anymore.

We are trying out a couple bass players in the next couple weeks to see who is going on tour with us this March. If you live in OH, TN, AR, OK, MO, or IN… come hang out with me, Katie, Tyler, Yanni, and whoever is playing bass. lol.

Click on media and listen to some tunes, homies.

God bless.

March Tour & more

Hey friends… thanks so much for keeping up with our website. For those of you who check this often… I’m trying to keep it as updated as possible. I’ve updated our shows listed above, so keep an eye on these dates being updated.

I’m excited to say that we’re getting closer to making the March tour happen. We have yet to pull in a bassist but have a couple leads on this. Just awaiting the tryout and such. Excited for what’s to come for this tour and this summer.

We’ve ordered new merch, so we’ll be getting it updated as well. Click on our store on the right of our site to buy what’s left of some of our shirts that are running low.

Two of the shows we have added are at the end of our March tour. We are playing two dates in Indiana on The Gun Show’s CD Release Tour! We are stoked to be a part of this with them. It will be awesome!

That’s all I have for now! Look forward to some news coming up real soon!

God bless.
